Continuing the successful new series as the second interview partner, Ola Källenius will speak about the sustainable transformation of the automotive industry on its path to carbon neutrality, offer insights into the newly launched strategy of Mercedes-Benz, and share his leadership philosophy. Prof. Raji Jayaraman, academic director of the FUTURE Institute for Sustainable Transformation at ESMT Berlin, will set the stage with opening remarks around the FUTURE Institute’s mission of transforming the way companies think about, and act upon, achieving sustainability goals through knowledge, learning, and practice. The evening will be moderated by TV moderator, journalist, and consultant Astrid Frohloff.


About the Today’s Global Leader event series

Today’s Global Leader is an ESMT event series in hybrid format. Successful business leaders share their leadership philosophies and position themselves on current political and economic topics in an open discussion with moderator Astrid Frohloff. Interaction with a diverse audience, including international students and other young leaders, is guaranteed.


About the speakers

Ola Källenius has been a member of the board of management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG since January 1, 2015, and chairman of the board of management since May 22, 2019. After receiving his masters in finance and accounting (Stockholm School of Economics) and in international management (University of St. Gallen), he joined Mercedes-Benz as a trainee within the International Management Associate Program in 1993 and has since held a wide range of leadership positions both in Germany and abroad. Since taking over as CEO in 2019, Ola Källenius has started a transformation process at Mercedes-Benz, steering the company towards sustainability and luxury.

Raji Jayaraman is an associate professor of economics and academic director of the FUTURE Institute for Sustainable Transformation at ESMT Berlin. A development and labor economist, her research focuses largely on how economic policy and organizational design can improve economic outcomes and foster social inclusion, especially among the poor and disadvantaged. Her work has been published in leading economics journals including the American Economic Review and the Journal of Political Economy.

Astrid Frohloff is a TV and conference moderator, journalist, and business coach. She studied political science, literature, and journalism. After working in Hamburg, Hanover, Austin (USA), and Jerusalem (Israel), she now lives with her family in Berlin.
